Historic Restoration
Restoring historically significant properties with care for original materials, traditional methods, and applicable preservation standards.

Our Approach
Preserving what others see as beyond repair.
Building new is often easier. Historic restoration is rewarding because it gives us the opportunity to preserve a piece of history that others may see as beyond repair. The work demands creative problem-solving, patience, and experience — finding ways to save original materials, recreate unique details, and respect the architecture while giving the property a new life.
Historic homes often bring us together with specialty trade partners who are as much artists as builders. Whether restoring old windows, repairing woodwork, recreating molding, or rebuilding stairs, it is remarkable to watch a skilled craftsperson transform something severely deteriorated into a feature worth preserving.
Brian is especially drawn to Mediterranean Revival and Mission-influenced homes found throughout South Florida, as well as Craftsman homes that connect with his New England background. We identify the materials and architectural details that give the home its character, then coordinate modern requirements for structure, weather protection, energy, life safety, and daily use.
When a property is historically designated, we work with the governing board — presenting projects, navigating review and permitting, and documenting existing conditions, materials, and proposed changes in a way that respects both the property and the board's preservation standards.
Common Questions
What clients ask about historic properties.
Can I choose any exterior color?
Often there is flexibility, but the permitted palette and approval process depend on the local historic district or governing board. We guide you through what's required.
Can I install impact windows?
Usually, yes — but the visible design, proportions, muntins, profiles, and other details may need to follow historic guidelines. We have experience navigating these requirements.
Can I add to a historic home?
In many cases, yes. The addition must receive the required approvals and should complement the scale, character, and architecture of the existing home rather than compete with it.
Have a historic property?
Tell us about it. We'd love to hear what you're working with and what you're hoping to preserve.
